WARD NATION
WHO WE ARE
Out of the dead ends of poverty, through the wilderness of superstitions, across barricades of Jim Crowism, we advanced.

With the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham, Lincoln in 1863, the parents of Tom B. and Charity were freed by law, but not by their slave holders until May 28 of said year.

From the union of these two in holy matrimony, a long line of descendants have come into being. These descendants have attained outstanding position in all areas of living helping to make a better place in which we live. Among these are: educators, attorneys, doctors, government employees on the local, state and national levels, bankers, ministers, farmers, accountants, painters, schools owners, architects, soldiers, sailors, computer programmers, marines, engineers, business owners, writers, and many other areas, and the end is not yet.

HOW IT STARTED

Sometime in late 1982, early 1983, Reverend Lee Ward, Ethel Ward Rattray and Veta Mae Ward Peterman had a conversations regarding unknown relatives. This gathering provided the impetus for the individuals to clearly understand their mission and task that lie ahead.

In 1983, this great task was accomplished. The First Ward Family Reunion was held at the Sheraton Inn, Dothan, Alabama, on August 5, 6 and 7.
